Craft Assistant is your thinking partner inside Craft. It helps you understand your content, explore ideas, summarize information, and navigate your workspace using natural language. It can also take action directly in your documents and spaces: add and replace content, apply styling, reorganize sections, create pages, move content, delete what you no longer need, and build structured outputs for you. As AI becomes more deeply integrated into everyday tools, data and context matter more than ever. Craft is built on the principle that your content is yours, and that principle has guided every decision behind Craft Assistant.

A new way of working with your information

Until now, software mostly required manual organization and manual execution. You had to find information first, then do the work yourself. Craft Assistant changes that. You can still ask questions like:
  • “What did I write about this topic around last year?”
  • “What tasks do I still need to finish for Project Y?”
  • “Summarize all my notes related to onboarding new hires.”
But now you can also ask it to execute work directly in Craft:
  • Reorganize a full document or section
  • Style content, add, replace, or remove blocks
  • Create pages and folders in your space
  • Move existing content to better structure your workspace
  • Create summary pages, including tag-based summary pages
It is not only a generation tool. It is an assistant that can work deeply inside your existing Craft structure. Everything you’ve stored in Craft is now one question away, and increasingly, one action away.

Two modes: Explore and Execute

The Assistant has two modes for working with your documents:
  • Explore — Proposes changes and waits for your approval before modifying anything.
  • Execute — Applies changes directly. You see edits appear in real time.
Use the mode selector at the bottom of the Assistant panel to switch between them. Only Fast and Max models support editing. See Editing with Craft Assistant for full details.

Where Craft Assistant works

Craft Assistant is available on macOS, iOS, Windows, and Web — across Documents, Tasks, Calendar, Collections, Code Editor, and browse views. Editing is currently available on macOS and iOS, with more platforms coming soon. See Using Craft Assistant for platform details.

Your data always stays yours

Four years ago we published our manifesto: Your data is yours. That commitment hasn’t changed – in fact, AI has made it even more important. Craft Assistant is built around a privacy-first approach:
  • Your chat sessions sync across your devices so you can continue conversations anywhere.
  • Craft syncs session data for continuity. We do not use your content to train AI models.
  • Only the minimum data required to process a single request is sent to the model provider.
  • For proper cost and AI credit attribution we record token usage and cost, never your text or the content of your requests.
Other platforms build walls around your data. Craft doesn’t.

Craft Assistant models

Craft Assistant offers four model tiers — On-device (free, runs locally), Core, Fast, and Max — ranging from quick local tasks to advanced reasoning. Only Fast and Max support editing. See Choosing AI Models for a full comparison.

AI credits: transparent, optional, predictable

AI has real computational cost, but not every user wants or needs the same level of AI support. Instead of raising prices or forcing everyone into a higher tier, we use an AI credit system. Every plan includes credits (on-device models are always free), and you can purchase additional credit packs if you need more. See AI Credits for plan details and pricing.

Use AI your way, even outside Craft

Craft Assistant is not the only way to use your data. If you prefer to rely solely on your existing ChatGPT or Claude subscription, you can – thanks to support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) and the Craft API. These allow you to:
  • Chat with your Craft documents from ChatGPT or Claude
  • Bring Craft content into external conversations
  • Save summaries or ideas back into Craft with a simple “Save this to Craft”
  • Build websites, dashboards, automations, or personal tools powered entirely by your Craft docs
This ensures you never pay twice for AI if you already use other tools – and you’re never locked into Craft’s ecosystem. Your data moves where you want it to move. Craft’s only moat is building the best experience, not owning your information.
MCP and API usage does not consume AI credits. To ensure reliability for everyone, usage must remain within fair usage limits. Free users may have different limits from paid users, but the core functionality will remain available to all.
