Custom Domains

External Custom Domain

Every document, or subpage, in Craft, can be shared with a unique URL. As standard, the URL will have the format craft.me/s/abc123 which is perfectly fine for a lot of applications. But what if you want the URL to reflect your brand? This is where custom domains can help.

Craft allows you to change the URLs of shared pages to one of the subdomains that you own. For example, now you can share the same page but with a link that looks like news.company.do/rebran and instantly communicate that something exciting is just a click away.

For more details on setting up your custom domains in Craft please visit this link.

Note: It's only possible to enable Custom Domains on Plus or higher plans

Can anyone add a Custom Domain?

Only admins on a Plus or higher plan can change domains in the admin portal. The changes made here apply to all documents and all spaces within the account.

How do I upgrade to the Plus plan?

You are able to subscribe to any of our subscription tiers via the Pricing page on our Website: https://www.craft.do/pricing

How much does it cost to add a Domain?

If you're a Plus or higher subscription user, nothing. This is included with your subscription.

How many domains can I add?

Craft currently supports one Custom Domain per team. You can change your domain as often as you want, however, only one domain can be applied to all documents and spaces at a time.

I don't own a domain, can I purchase one through Craft?

No, not at this time. If you'd like to see this feature added, please send us an email at feedback@craft.do

Can I use Craft with a root domain so it becomes my homepage?

Currently, we don't support root domains, only subdomains. For example, we support blog.company.do/pat but not company.do/pat. However, some workarounds might work, such as using www. as your subdomain and using / as the path. These workarounds can be provider-specific, but we cannot ensure they will always perform well and may not be officially supported.

What if I change my mind, can I remove my domain?

If you wish to revert your custom domain back to the Craft.do urls just disconnect the domain in your Team Settings. You may also want to change the DNS settings for your domain provider, however, it is not required to disconnect your domain from Craft.

I've made all the changes but it's not working?

It can take up to 24 hours for changes to take effect through the network. You might even find one browser works and another doesn't at this time. If you're still having trouble after 24 hours, please contact support feedback@craft.do

I've tried to connect my subdomain but I don't know where to change the settings.

We've collected some of the more popular provider steps here. If you're using a provider not on this list try searching for DNS settings

I'd like to revert back to the Craft.do url for one document, how do I do this?

This is not possible at this time. Custom domains apply to your whole team can cannot be removed for a single document. You can disconnect your custom domain, but that will remove the custom domain from all of your documents.

What is a subdomain?

A subdomain is any set of characters that comes before the main domain name. In the example below blog is the subdomain, company.do is the main domain and amazing-news is the path.

blog.company.do/amazing-news

This is often used for completely separate sections of a business or interest such as blog.company.do

What is a URL path or segment?

A URL has a domain and a path. The path is the part of the URL that comes after the first backslash. For example in the URL company.do/brand/colors “brand/colors” is referred to as the path. In this example “brand” is also a segment.

Craft supports customization of both of these attributes, however, single character segments such as company.do/b/colors are not supported.

What happens if I no longer own the domain or disconnect it? Will all the old links break?

If you disconnect your subdomain from Craft, all links, past and present, will revert back to their original Craft.do/s/path format. If someone tries to use an old link (with your custom domain) it will no longer work.

If you no longer own the domain, any links with that domain will fail. Craft will continue to allow you to create custom links, but these will also fail. If you no longer own the domain, you should disconnect the domain in your Team Settings as soon as possible.

What happens if I cancel my Plus or higher subscription plan?

If you cancel your subscription, you won’t be able to create a custom domain for your team and your account will have the limitations of a Free account. All links that have been set up in the past will continue to work but you won’t be able to add new custom domain share links.
